Wow! So many of us feel powerless. But we are not. We are immensely powerful. We only think we are powerless. Think afresh...

Elections are taking place or have already taken place in many States and Nations. Much is being said to and about voters. I would like to address those who are being elected.

Once an individual is elected to public office, they become the people's servant. With your election they have said: "I invest in you the power to be me and speak on my behalf as I would speak. Be my eyes, ears, hands, and feet. Reap for me the harvest of my labor."

I would like to make a suggestion to the powers-that-be: make an offering of genuine humility to the people. You will not regret it and they will not forget it. Humility has rewards: true honor and respect. These are the gifts to those who are humble without reason.

U.S. NGO Founder heads for Kenya to build Peace Memorial

MANKOTO, MN -- In November of 2007 Dr. Sophia Asaviour, president of Peace of the World International, is arriving to clear land in Huri Hills in Kenya East Africa. Acreage has been made available for a Peace Memorial to be built, which will include: a Vocational Training Center, Free Clinic, Clear Water Wells, and Children's Peace Academy.

Through the efforts of the Honorable Ukur Yatani, who is a Member of Parliament, along with the generosity of the people of the Marsabit District, a memorial is being built in the Huri Hills area in memory of the 12 government officials who set out on a mission of peace (Monday, 8 April 2006) and were killed in a devastating plane crash. This is phase one of a four part project to be completed on 10+ acres of land.

Dr. Asaviour says she is going to Kenya to work because: "I want to take part in all phases of this project's growth and development. I am calling upon those who will volunteer to join me in: clearing the land, setting fences, laying foundations, building walls and roofs, digging and securing wells, and planting fields. The purpose for this effort is to bring together volunteers, local builders, and villagers to work together for the benefit of peace and for the sake of the community. This is the beginning. Come and continue with us."

Symptoms of Inner Peace
Watch for the Signs.

The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to it, and it seems likely that we could find ourselves experiencing it in epidemic proportions.

Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:

Tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fear based on past experiences.

An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

Loss of interest in judging other people.

Loss of interest in judging self.

Loss of interest in interpreting the action of others.

Loss of interest in conflict.

Loss of ability to worry (a very serious symptom).

Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.

Frequent attacks of smiling through the eyes from the heart.

Increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.

Increased susceptibility to Love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

If you have all or even most of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition may be too far advanced to turn back.

Astrophysics would seem to be approaching the ancient view,
that of the constant coming into being and disappearance into rest of numberless universes within the field of the infinite.
This field is pervaded by consciousness so that,
as the philosophers of all times have said,
Divinity is like an infinite circle whose center is everywhere and circumference is nowhere.
This implies that every minuscule particle and the most gigantic conglomeration of heavenly bodies are equally permeated with a divine quality,
with consciousness.
From such a source comes the vitalism,
the dynamic drive to growth,
the constant emergence out of the unfathomable potential resources of Space,
of new qualities,
refinement after refinement of spirit and matter.

Here is where we must search out the reason for existence,
the meaning of life and its manifold productivity.
The urge is toward ever more unfoldment from some center within each entity,
of the limitless latent possibilities awaiting the conditions and the opportunities for expression.
There is nothing haphazard when the sequence of cause and effect is inescapable.
The encouraging feature is that the growth and unfoldment of finer and yet finer faculties are constant and unending.

Mike Taylor in part 6 of his presentation on What God is Like begins this way:

Today we want to look at the awesomeness of God: his utter, ultimate power, knowledge and relevance to everything that ever happens. The three qualities of God that theologians talk about in this area are the ``omnis'':
His omnipotence - he can do anything.
His omniscience - he knows everything.
His omnipresence - he is everywhere.
We're going to look at all these in one session, somewhat mushed together, as they are facets of the same truth - the ``ultimateness'' or ``absoluteness'' of God, if you like. We won't try too hard to break the three ``omnis'' apart as they represent a rather artificial distinction. We'll see how they tie together.
For a lot of people, these issues are more fruitfully approached through the arts than than through the sciences. That's because, as we've observed before, God is just too big to fit into our finite, mortal minds. The best we can hope for is a piercing glimpse of the reality - which is what music, for example, can sometimes give us. While science wants to have everything mapped out neatly, and fails completely when it can't grasp its subject, art is content with allusions, hints and analogies. That's why, even though by nature I am a scientific kind of person, I've got more real insight into God's nature from novels and music than from any amount of theology. You need the theology so you can fit the glimpses into a coherent framework; but if all you have is a framework, you might as well give up and go home.
The key insight here is that God is much, much more than we understand. There is so much more to him than we will ever grasp in this life - and maybe in the next. Most Christians become Christians long before they have any real understanding of who it is they have come to love and trust; and to be truthful, we never fully find out. That's not a bad thing, though it may sound like it: it's like a developing love affair, which grows deeper as the lover grow to know each other more deeply.

Do you have faith in the abundance of God's universe or in lack?

You say, "What silly questions!" But you do have a choice as to where you put your faith, and this choice will determine your experience.

Are you willing to invest your faith in the solution as much as you may have in the problem?

Faith is a security that can be invested. Anything you have faith in can become a reality in your life. That is the wealth permeating faith. During times of great distress, by holding onto faith in God, you can be carried through the experience.

A gardner plants seeds in the soil and then begins to act on faith. He or she cannot see the growth that is happening beneath the earth, yet continues to water and weed the garden. That is faith! That is belief in the invisible, trusting that there is a Power at work to bring forth the harvest.

We can't see or know the whole picture. But we can know that thre is a Higher Power & Vision and that seeing through our human eyes, we can only see a tiny piece of the whole. That is where faith comes in.

Just Say "No"

There is a story of a legion of soldiers from Thebes (present day Lurer in Upper Egypt) that is a spectacular example of witnessing to others about the Christian faith. They were known as The Roman Theban Legion because the men were Egyptian Christian Copts who had been recruited from and stationed in Thebias in Upper Egypt. All 6600 were Martyred in the town (known in the Roman times) as "Aguanum", an important communication center in 286 A.D. The following is report of why none would survive.

Maximian, the second in command to Emperor Diocletian, ordered the Theban Legion (which were quartered in the east) to march to the border of Gaul (France). The legion camped in (present day) Switzerland. There they were to assist him against the rebels of Burgundy. It was the custom of the Romans to move troops from extreme parts of the empire to avoid the problem of Roman-trained soldiers participating in uprisings to free their native lands.

[It should be noted here that the Egyptians or the Copts accepted Christianity so very rapidly to the extent that the Romans had to exercise a series of persecutions in an attempt to suppress the growth of a religion which openly defied the divinity of the Emperor. The Roman Edict of 202 A.D. decreed that Christian conversion should be stopped at all costs. The edict of 250 A.D. decreed that every citizen should carry at all times a certificate issued by the local authorities testifying that he had offered sacrifice to the gods. Those who refused to conform were tortured with unprecedented ferocity. Some were beheaded, others were thrown to the lions and others were burnt alive. All were subjected to even innovated veracious torture regardless of age or sex. The Catechetical School of Alexandria was closed by order of the authorities, though its members continued to meet in other secret places. At one time, the number of bishops was restricted by the State to three. The consummation of the age of persecution is considered by the Copts to be during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305). So severe was the mass execution and the savage torture of the Copts that they took the day of DiocIetian's military election as Emperor to mark the beginning of the era of the Coptic martyrs. That very day marked the start of the Coptic Calendar known in the Western world as Anno Martyrum (A.M.) or the year of the Martyrs.]

There are conflicting reports as to the timing of the event: there are some reports that state the following happened the night before the attack and others reporting that it took place after the revolt was quelled), the Emperor Maximian issued an order that the whole army should join offering sacrifices for the Roman gods for the success of their mission. The order included killing Christians. Only the Thebian Legion dared to refuse to comply with the orders declaring that they were Christians themselves. The legion withdrew itself, encamped near Aguanum and refused to take part in these rites. The declaration angered Maximian

He stood them in file and had them decimated (i.e. every 10th man killed) hoping to intimidate the rest. The remaining soldiers met together and wrote a letter to him, which then all signed. They wrote:

Great Caesar - we are your soldiers, and at the same time we are God's slaves. We owe you our military service, but our prime allegiance we owe to God. From you we receive our daily wages; from Him our eternal reward. Great Caesar, we cannot obey any order if it turns counter to God's commands. If your orders coincide with God's commands we will certainly obey; if not, 'we ought to obey God rather than man' (Acts 5:29) for our loyalty to Him surpasses all other loyalties. We are not rebels; if we were, we would defend ourselves for we have our weapons. But we prefer to die upright than to live stained. As Christians, we will serve you. But we will not relinquish our faith in our Lord, and this we openly declare.

This steadfastness of the whole legion infuriated Caesar and he ordered the Roman soldiers to wipe out the whole legion, which they did. Pere Cheneau, the historian, described the event in this way:

Thus they were martyred...It was a mighty holocaust; an unparalleled massacre, the plains were drunk with blood and the bodies strewn to the winds. But by being willing to make the supreme sacrifice, the men of the Theban Legion proved that their faithfulness to their Heavenly Lord and King surpassed their valor as soldiers in the army of the temporal ruler.

Metaphysics Matters

William Grassie list Metaphysics as #3 of his Ten Reasons for the Constructive Engagement of Science and Religion. I am not sure if the positioning was significant in Mr. Grassie's mind as he listed these points. Being the founder and E.D. of the Metanexus Institute on Religion and Science, I would think the position does mean something. But before I go into what I think it means, here is what he had to say about Metaphysics:

When we talk about metaphysics, please stay away from that section of the bookstore so labeled, which it seems has become a catch-all category for wild speculation and wishful thinking. Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that examines the nature of reality, for instance the relationship between mind and matter, animate and inanimate, substance and attribute, fact and value. Contrary to much thinking in the sciences today, there is no such thing as a metaphysically free way of understanding the world. To argue that there is no overarching metaphysical reality, as in the case of postmodernism, or to argue that this reality is mere materialism, reductionistically understood, is itself to assert a metaphysical system. The moment we try to understand how disparate data relate to one another in some kind of coherent or incoherent system, we are engaged in metaphysical speculation. Some interpretations may be more adequate than others, but there are no definitive proofs. While the meta-narratives of metaphysics are currently out of fashion in academics, these are nevertheless the foundations upon which we construct our worldviews and our world-doings. One exciting aspect of the science and religion dialogue is to see how science seems to point beyond itself to something more, something transcendent, although it would be a big leap to necessarily equate this "more" with the God of Abraham, Isaac Jacob, Jesus, and Mohammed, for example, or the Buddha nature in all things. Nevertheless, metaphysics matters. We need a more humble hermeneutics in which we do not use our metaphysical assumptions as a truncheon to truncate open-end conversations.

I Aim, I Accomplish

I aim to do
only that
which is constructive and life-giving
therefore
I know
that everything I do
is prospered.

Everything I touch
is quickened
into a newness
of life and action.

Every constructive purpose
in my life
is fulfilled.

I rightly accomplish
and prosper
as I persistently
keep my desires in accord
with God’s nature.

I think affirmatively, and
in all my prayers
I accept abundance.

Whatever I need,
whenever I need it,
wherever I need it,
for as long as I need it,
will always be at hand.

And so it is.
